Every holder of a CySEC certification — Basic, Advanced, or AML — must complete a minimum number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours each year to keep their certificate valid. Failing to meet the requirement means your certificate lapses. This guide covers exactly how many hours you need, what counts, and when to renew.
| Certification held | CPD hours required per year |
|---|---|
| CySEC Basic | 10 hours |
| CySEC Advanced | 15 hours |
| CySEC AML | 10 hours |
| CySEC Basic + AML | 15 hours |
| CySEC Advanced + AML | 20 hours |
CPD hours must be completed by 31 December each year. Certificate renewal must be submitted through the CySEC website by end of February the following year.
CPD seminars and training must be relevant to your role in financial services and recognised by CySEC. Accepted CPD activities typically include:
Note: CySEC publishes a list of approved CPD providers on its website. Always verify that your chosen training is on the approved list before relying on it for renewal.
If you do not complete the required CPD hours by 31 December, your certificate will lapse. A lapsed certificate means you are no longer authorised to perform the regulated activities covered by that certificate. You will need to re-sit the examination to regain your certification — there is no grace period for CPD renewal.
