Foundational concepts of the AML/CFT regime — the purpose of the framework and the key definitions the rest of the syllabus builds on.
Foundational chapter
Not examined in the mock — learning-mode only, but it underpins the rest of the syllabus.
Chapter 1 sets the foundations for the CySEC AML Compliance Officer certification. It introduces the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) regime that applies to Cypriot Investment Firms and other obliged entities, and defines the core terms — money laundering, terrorist financing, predicate offences — that every later chapter depends on.
It carries no questions in the 40-question mock exam (it is foundational, learning-mode only), but skipping it makes the rest of the syllabus harder. A short pass to fix the definitions and the structure of the Cyprus framework pays off across Chapters 2 to 8.
The key concepts tested in Chapter 1.
Purpose and scope of the AML/CFT framework
Key definitions: money laundering and terrorist financing
The Cyprus AML Law and the CySEC AML Directive
Who the AML certification is for and how the exam is structured
This is a foundational chapter — it is not directly examined in the mock, but it sets up the definitions and framework the rest of the syllabus relies on. A short pass here makes every later chapter easier.
